mooncake festival is..
...the time to be cultured and check out the moon! just kidding la.
mooncake festival is actually the time of the yr where lanterns are burnt, the stories of chang er and her bunny are all mixed up and given modern spins to it and everyone is reminded how each mooncake contains at least 1000 calories (it had better not be kilocalories).
so u'll see everyone with huge bags of these confectionery, and yr after yr, new flavours spring up to keep variety-driven consumers happy..normal skin, snow skin(oo yummy), pastry skin, in flavours like apricot, truffle, choc, green tea, yam, u name it, they have it. i love the snow skin. as in, just the skin. i dont really like mooncake cos its quite sweet and sticky. but well, i'm still game if there are new flavours to try.
but nothing quite beats the one i had today...
SEA URCHIN mooncake.
for the uninitiated, mooncakes are meant to be sweet, kinda like a chinese turkish delight.
now, sea urchins, on the other hand, are seafood. *think snails and sashimi*
somehow, these 2 just dont quite go together. tho the sea urchin did have a slight bak kwa after taste to it. plus it was also super oily.
so tell me, wat was the oddest mooncake u had this year?
oh if u really wanna noe the Accurate, but Boring legend behind the festival, do google it. no harm learning more abt the chinese since there are so many chinese around.=0)
