i am absolutely certain i'm allergic to something except i dont know what!

it started with sporadic hive-ing on the arms near the joint, which subsided but subsequently flared up again on alternating arms, and days of itchy eyes which got so bad i'd actually wake in the middle of the night to rub even tho i shldnt, giving me such puffy red eyes i cant put my contacts in.

to top it off, i walk into the office and start sneezing fits which end off with me having watery eyes and being continuously glued to tissue (god bless kleenex). so i'm kinda unproductive now cos i can barely think or write 2 sentences on cholesterol without feeling groggy and useless.

wat the heck am i allergic to!

as a side note, yay to a few things. i had a nice free dinner last night (yet another tonkichi convert was born) with good dessert and a spot of shopping tho he din manage to buy anything.

and i just had zyrtec delivered to my office.

god bless zyrtec, good frens who work near you, but god damn allergies and overzealous mast cells! i will stock up on more zyrtec and abstain from springcleaning for a good 10yrs.

if it werent for the bbq, i'd be so glad to spend sat curled up in bed finishing up Animal's People with a steaming pot of good ol rose tea and some lavender cookies to go with it.

this was so funny i really burst out laughing in the middle of the afternoon, in my extremely quiet office. especially so after another conversation with someone who always says ALL my other frens (but me) have very sweet voices.

y says:

me says:

y says:
ya
she says v ruan
delicate lo

HAHAHA i always knew i had a singtel voice.

things to add on to shuyun's list of loserly moments
1) shuttle coming towards me, me watching and getting ready to hit cos tl says hit the ball when its in front of u, end up shuttle hits me on the nose.
2) akan datang. u wont hav to wait for long i assure u.

lessons learnt.

1) managing expectations is important. 3hits out of 4 recipes in 2 days, is still afterall, a 75% pass rate. commendable considering these recipes have never been tried before. so its ok if the mousse failed horribly. terribly. disgustingly. uhlweh.

2) there is no such thing called perfection. even after 4 batches of cupcakes, you jus gotta admit that cupcakes wil be cupcakes and they will never turn out 100% as wat u want them to.

3) baking is tiring. no kidding. i got the patience, but man.. my knee actually hurts.

4) baking can be a one-person affair. washing MUST be a many-ppl affair. i hate washing cos i like things oil free and squeaky clean but i hate the thot of having to use/waste so much water to do so.

5) washing and cleaning up is way more tiring than baking

6) food styling and photography is fun. the positioning, setting up, matching ribbons, multiple shots, adjusting lighting, exposure and the works. never knew i could be so patient.

7) its ok if ur own mother is not even half as appreciative than other ppl's parents. accept it.

8) korean dramas are way too draggy and cheesy for their own good. wah lau eh. mabbe i'm too much of a cynic.

9) when it comes to recipes (or anything else for the matter) read in between the lines. and in between the lines of those lines too.

10) i miss my big kitchen. =0(

DECISIONS.

bimbotic or otherwise, still DECISIONS!

1) heels or sports?

so its come to this finally. to skinny-fy oneself instantaneously via heels that immediately correct posture and add the much needed height, or conscientiously burn burn burn every last calorie devoured. i am unfortunately unable to be anorexic or bulimic, i love my food too much.

decision: relatively straightforward surprisingly. but damn! i so love my heels! =0(

2) laser or braces?

alamak. another vanity issue. but a relatively more costly one. (hmmm sports option oso cheaper than heels option) laser for hopefully a year of good clear skin, or braces for a year of torture for a 5-10% lifetime improvement in alignment.

decision: totally inconclusive. absolutely clueless.

opinions? suggestions?
how how how???

FINAL DECISON for now: adopt mich's bear's theory.

zzzzzzzz...

wanted to write about this but din haf time til now.

my phone rang last night. late last night, a male voice asking for my mother. i thought it was familiar, but din tink much about it.

initially the cheery voice was loud and clear, normal chatting, which soon gave way to grave tones and hushed voices.

how desperate he must have been..to want to borrow money from her, an ex boss no less. how sad it must be, to lose all that pension to poor business judgement (or bad luck perhaps).

i cannot imagine what it must be like.

but i fear the same thing happening in my own home.

damn. i'm so predictable.

Lessons in Love, by Way of Economics

By BEN STEIN
Published: July 13, 2008

AS my fine professor of economics at Columbia, C. Lowell Harriss (who just celebrated his 96th birthday) used to tell us, economics is the study of the allocation of scarce goods and services. What could be scarcer or more precious than love? It is rare, hard to come by and often fragile.

My primary life study has been about love. Second comes economics, so here, in the form of a few rules, is a little amalgam of the two fields: the economics of love. (I last wrote about this subject 20 years or so ago, and it’s time to update it.)

•

In general, and with rare exceptions, the returns in love situations are roughly proportional to the amount of time and devotion invested. The amount of love you get from an investment in love is correlated, if only roughly, to the amount of yourself you invest in the relationship.

If you invest caring, patience and unselfishness, you get those things back. (This assumes, of course, that you are having a relationship with someone who loves you, and not a one-sided love affair with someone who isn’t interested.)

•

High-quality bonds consistently yield more return than junk, and so it is with high-quality love. As for the returns on bonds, I know that my comment will come as a surprise to people who have been brainwashed into thinking that junk bonds are free money. They aren’t. The data from the maven of bond research, W. Braddock Hickman, shows that junk debt outperforms high quality only in rare situations, because of the default risk.

In love, the data is even clearer. Stay with high-quality human beings. And once you find that you are in a junk relationship, sell immediately. Junk situations can look appealing and seductive, but junk is junk. Be wary of it unless you control the market.

(Or, as I like to tell college students, the absolutely surest way to ruin your life is to have a relationship with someone with many serious problems, and to think that you can change this person.)

•

Research pays off. The most appealing and seductive (that word again) exterior can hide the most danger and chance of loss. For most of us, diversification in love, at least beyond a very small number, is impossible, so it’s necessary to do a lot of research on the choice you make. It is a rare man or woman who can resist the outward and the surface. But exteriors can hide far too much.

•

In every long-term romantic situation, returns are greater when there is a monopoly. If you have to share your love with others, if you have to compete even after a brief while with others, forget the whole thing. You want to have monopoly bonds with your long-term lover. At least most situations work out better this way. ( I am too old to consider short-term romantic events. Those were my life when Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon were in the White House.)

•

The returns on your investment should at least equal the cost of the investment. If you are getting less back than you put in over a considerable period of time, back off.

•

Long-term investment pays off. The impatient day player will fare poorly without inside information or market-controlling power. He or she will have a few good days but years of agony in the world of love.

To coin a phrase: Fall in love in haste, repent at leisure.

•

Realistic expectations are everything. If you have unrealistic expectations, they will rarely be met. If you think that you can go from nowhere to having someone wonderful in love with you, you are probably wrong.

You need expectations that match reality before you can make some progress. There may be exceptions, but they are rare.

•

When you have a winner, stick with your winner. Whether in love or in the stock market, winners are to be prized.

•

Have a dog or many dogs or cats in your life. These are your anchors to windward and your unfailing source of love.

Ben Franklin summed it up well. In times of stress, the three best things to have are an old dog, an old wife and ready money. How right he was.

THERE is more that could be said about the economics of love, but these thoughts may divert you while you are thinking about your future.

And let me close with another thought. I am far from glib about the economy. It has a lot of pitfalls facing it. As workers and investors, we know that many dangers lurk in our paths.

But so far, these things have always worked themselves out and this one will, too. In the meantime, they say that falling in love is wonderful, and that the best is falling in love with what you have.

From the NY Times

note to self: 5 appts in a row 2hrs apart is madness. esp when u're sick and have a cranky digestive system. madness.

i had the best time though, surprisingly, in the midst of the madness. tucked myself in a corner and sat on the floor at the esplanade library with a book, listening to a fren's fren performing jazz live on piano. dreamy day it was too, rain splattering the bay window, yet letting enough light filter through for me to read my book. i tink it was a breather i needed, chill out time for meself. an unexpected break, the more so i cherished it. if only i could savour it for jus that little while longer.

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

If your heart is in your dreams
No request is to extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do

Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
As sweet fullfillment of their secret drowns
Like a boat out of the blue
Fate steps in and see's you through

this post is taking me longer than usual to write.

kinda jus stared blankly, words waiting to come out but refusing to let the fingers do the talking.

i had the review yesterday, long overdued. he came in unexpectedly for 'a chat', and i jus said all that i felt.. the labels.. our processes.. how tiring it really got.. the website.. projects we did, but never saw the light.. how i'm not learning anything new now, and jus changing and revising.. told him i din need motivation..but neither do i need de-motivating either..i guess i shldnt have said all that

to be fair.. i tot he took it all rather well.. despite me almost going to tear heh. cos after tt he still said performance was good and all that, tho i still wear my heart on my sleeve. he talked about ownership..how the plan was to get us to take on more responsibility.. but then i said after working together for so long, he shld noe that we are more than willing to take it on.. and im sure we can.. its jus the way we do things.. that gets really tiring sometimes.. decisions are made.. i can accept it, only if u explained to me why they were made, so i dont make the same mistakes again..

well either way the hunt continues. there's so much more out there in the world to try, to see, to do, to explore! there has to be something out there made jus for me, tht i'd be ridiculously happie doing even if the terms, conditions, environment suck. something i believed in truly, and want to do it right from the bottom of my heart and soul, despite objection or obstacle.

idealistic? mabbe. but without ideals, then what do we strive towards? at the end of the day, ideals, goals, dreams all vanish into thin air, but when you're lying there confronting death, can you confidently say with no regret that u've lived your life, the way you were really meant to? i want to be able to do that.

dont realy know wat i'm talking about honestly, its such a sleepy day. concussed after dark knights gala premier last night (heath ledger is amazing as the joker) and woke up wishing i could carry on concussing all the way to noon. and yes! go watch dark knight! the 2.5hrs are well worth each and every second. movie's abit dark and sinister (which i love) but there are funny bits and heartwrenching ones as well. (ok for me to actually write such a long movie review means its really good so jus go and watch la! plus the guy playing batman's not too bad too)

national day bbq coming up! no special reason, we jus smelt bbq food while playing squash and decided we wanted to eat bbq food too. shiok. cant wait. hehe.

wat i liked about the weekend.
1) squashed/ate with my fags, had an episode of pingpong comedy as well
2) got offered a position, and after tons of deliberation, will hve to figure out how to turn them down nicely. abit sad, but the practicalities overrode all emotional biasness. strong push, relatively not strong pull = nopes!
3) caught cao ge live! in concert! by accident! and hiding outside the indoor stadium! he can sing live sooo well i'm even more impressed now.
4) attempted to cable ski. er knee ski i mean.

aiyah tired liao, continue tomorrow.

cabbed cos knee was hurting quite abit and the cabbie was the nicest ever.

wanted to stop by the busstop near my ofc, cos by the time we make the u-turn, it'd have cost me another 2bucks and 10min (the traffic is mad).

but we were still a distance fr the busstop and he not only readily agreed, he said he'd stop the meter there and then so i can pay him and hop off the cab. i was abit flabbergested, but yeah he made sense so we wont have to fumble for change and i gave him the money. it was 4.60 and i said, uncle, nmind u gimme 5bucks back can oredi cos it shld be ard there when we reach the bus stop.'

he basically brushed me aside and gave me back 5.4. so ok fine, i tot we'd wait til i reach then i'll pass him back the coins. reach liao he was so happie it was a red light so i can slowly get off and he can stop me nearer my ofc building. and when i wanted to pass him the coins, he refused to take it, no need la no need! u reach can oredi!

its amazing, what small actions ppl can do to make you feel happie through and through.

yes yes dear friends i is ok. dont worry, i really is ok. if u know me, u'd noe i'll be perfectly ok once i get it out of my system.

well actually, i tink there is something wrong.

for one, i CANNOT find any song to fit my current mood. from jamiroquai to faye wong to estelle to yang zhong wei to jay to arethra franklin to tiesto to frank sinatra and even to madonna. i jus simply cannot find any song that describes now. its jus really weird. but one thing's for sure.. i have to have music in my life.

two. i havent been hungry for the longest time. i mean, since msia the only time i felt rather hungry was today at lunch but i din feel hungry afterwards even at 9 jus now. weird.

three. i din buy anything frivolous today despite being surrounded by all sorts of temptations. only got my shampoo and 2 books to read which i happily started on at the food court waiting for miss leo and miss gu. weirdd.

last. har? still got? think tats quite enough weird behaviour for a while. was rather amused by ppl asking me where i was and why i'm impersonating shuyun when i said i wasnt hungry. hehe. not on diet la ok, jus not hungry la oso duno why. damn weird.

oh ya was oso rather amused this morning. was sitting at a corner of the bus stop bench cos the other side was wet. and then got up to let this old lady sit cos no other place for her to sit. then she squished herself to the furtherst end and say 'here got seat, can come and sit oso!' to me. then we happen to get on the same bus and she told me she found me a 'good seat' too. haha how cute.

tink my wish would be to grow old gracefully and be a cute lil old lady. hehe.

i was wondering if its jus a sad fact of life that my work will always get trampled on like its worth nothing, or its jus that i'm damn suay.

if its jus how life is, then i better start dealing with it. fast.

i dont mind if you tell me what's wrong, or how to change or improve. in fact i want feedback cos i jus want things to work well. but i jus dont understand it anymore when they are thrown aside and revived at whim and fancy.

cos it really kinda hurts to have your projects treated that way. especially when you know u've put in heart, mind and soul into it.

u're way too cruel, reality. excuse me while i go squash some fish and eyeballs.

ok today is jus a really bad/ weird day for me.

someone keeps talking to me.. asked me out to movies and concerts and stuff and its jus weird cos he's jus really not my cup of tea. plus he's like far away.
someone else came to talk to me.. and out of the blue said he missed me and all that crap. things that shld have been said long ago and are really too late now.
then there's another one who is acting weirdly too and i jus dont know wat to make of things.
ok enough. this is jus getting way too weird.
i tink i need to start talking to more girls.

at the work front.. i keep getting arrowed to do things.. costings..comparisons.. things i shldnt be doing?
and my projects.. i dont know why they force me to work so hard for them.. only to throw them out later cos 'its too expensive' 'lets do this other thing instead' when pricing shld have been a main factor to stop the proj very early on in the proj.
and then? after like months, they decide to revive it. and i have to start all over again.
like.. wtf.. seriously..
do they have any idea how painful it is to revisit each proj..
alot of work went into it, now to revisit it, try to adapt it, its really harder than starting fr scratch really.

and doing packaging design..u have any idea how long it takes to do one? its not as easy as jus 'go design it and show it to me'.
this.is.really.not.a.game.

but i'm so thankful for badminton sessions cos i suck at it and yet i can safely learn and make mistakes and no one really cares. felt bad for spoiling tl's racket but he was nice enough not to make any fuss..not even raise an eyebrow. most of all, its jus plain fun and i like how i laugh with my heart for a good 2hrs. ok mabbe not a full 2hrs cos i'll be suffering fr lockjaw but u get the idea.

the end of the day, the start of another, and the sun rises again.

mich's words of wisdom: the best resolution to almost everything is to sleep it off and it'll take care of itself. brilliance! see for yourself..

This bridge is on the Old Donner Pass Highway. It has a spectacular view of Donner Lake and Donner Pass on Route 80.

A bear was walking across Rainbow Bridge (Old Hwy 40 at Donner Summit, Truckee) on Saturday when two cars also crossing the bridge scared the bear into jumping over the edge of the bridge. Somehow the bear caught the ledge and was able to pull itself to safety. Authorities decided that nothing could be done to help Saturday night so they returned Sunday morning to find the bear sound asleep on the ledge.

After securing a net under the bridge the bear was tranquilized, fell into the net, lowered, then woke up and walked out of the net.

There is a moral to this story you know. This old bear made a wrong move and found he was hanging by his nails. Somehow he was able to pull himself up onto the ledge where he saw he was in a very bad, impossible situation, and what did he do? Yep, he took a nap and sure enough God took care of the situation while he was asleep.

The moral is that when confronted with a bad situation sometimes the best solution is to take a nap and let God take care of the rest.

current repeat

another david cook cover.. havent heard it in such a long time.. neil diamond isnt exactly new age eheh.

After all these years

After all these tears between us
Still I couldn't find
Someone half as right as you

And each time I stop to think
What it is I really need
Heres what I conclude
All I really need is you

Just say what you want to say
You don't have a chance in the world
Can I, knowing how I've tried
Still come close to losing you
Have I spent so many nights
Trying but in vain to tell you
Don't you know it's true
All I really need is you

How was I to know
We'd have ended here
Where we finally did
You tied your life to mine
Once upon a starry night
And when someone asks for me
What it is that I believe

Say, I believe it's true
All I really need is you

- neil diamond, all i really need is you

Oh, Johnny wishes he was famous
Spends his time alone in the basement
With Lennon and Cobain
A guitar and a stereo
While he wishes he could escape this
But it all seems so contagious
Not to be yourself and faceless
In a song that has no soul

I remember feeling low
I remember losing hope
I remember all the feelings and the day they stopped

We are, we are all innocent
We are all innocent
We are, we are...
We are, we are all innocent
We are all innocent
We are, we are...

Oh, Tina's losing faith in what she knows
Hates her music, hates all of her clothes
Thinks of surgery and a new nose
Every calorie is a war
While she wishes she was a dancer
And that she'd never heard of cancer
She wishes God would give her some answers
And make her feel beautiful

One day, you'll have to let it go
You'll have to let it go, no...
One day, you'll stand up on your own
You'll stand up on your own

Remember losing hope
Remember feeling low
Remember all the feelings and the day they stopped

We are, we are all innocent

- Innocent, David Cook
