i thought, how apt the lyrics are, even if it were in the work a different context.

shopping list.

just did it.

dont feel a thing actually, and dont really need to hide out else where.

just feels like i've struck an item off my shopping list.

ticked, checked, crossed.

most importantly, done.

no regrets.

there are so many things to mull over; pieces of the jigsaw to fit into the frame of time.
now? later? before japan? after?
wat abt the $$$$$$$$? am i really going to live on coins and meagre savings?
even if i take the may paper, is that result going to be satisfactory?
is going to dr goh's gonna be a waste of time? wat exactly am i gonna do?
shld i jus leave it up to fate? take it a step at a time? or plan and execute only when i'm 90% certain?
urgh. i'm heading back to my bed.

bisque.

this is dedicated to my one and only missmymy, our 10th yr of friendship and the vast influence she's had on me.

especially in the arena of food.

for one, this woman is to blame credited for making me eat my first bowl of laksa (she was understandably flabbergasted I’d yet to have any at the ripe old tender age of 17), thereby beginning my foray into the somewhat unknown world of genus Capsicum.

Who can forget the days where nissin tom yum and calbee hot & spicy reigned supreme whilst mugging for As in our humble RJ canteen??

No thanks to this woman, I’m now also a huge fan of Lotus caramelized biscuits (especially fab when dipped in mifee) and MOS chicken. Wats great abt it is that the damn chicken is more or less entirely breast meat but its tasty! And tender! And juicy! And not overly oily! And of cos, icb food and green tea which her house has an abundance of. There was also that tom yum seaweed phase.... and roulette gummys....

Goddamnit. This is the sole reason for my weight gain! Rem how skinny we were! Sigh.

Oh but to be fair, I tink I’m somewhat responsible for her semi-convert to a chocoholic. Yay! But 1 against so many, I’m still at the (heavier) losing end.

BAH. (speaking of bahs, tats all her doing too. Go on, bababababa back to you too =0p)

I hold the HMTP (honey milk tea with pearl) entirely responsible for this entry. It’s the insulin, I swear to god. it instantaneously dissipated all earlier angst even in this sweltering-grouch-inducing weather.

And even tho we have our differences (we disagree on the doneness of our steaks), here’s to another decade with my most unfailingly reliable jacks-place-lobster-bisque-and-steak buddy. ^^

he is having a chat with me as i type this, its not a very pleasant one but i refuse to shed a single tear cos this is absolutely pointless.
theres nothing quite like affirmation on a monday on how insignificant u are, is there? nor criticism, i guess past merits never quite atone for small slipups.
us humans, can be so cruel sometimes.
but as it were, jabs and stabs that dont kill only serve to make you stronger, scars thicker, head wiser, and heart lighter.
much as i hate it here, it pains me to feel this way too.

its also really painful not to blog in a while and have the first entry so.. angsty.
martian messages are also kinda painful, but in a more shrug-it-off way. and they're definitely more welcome than the redundant sort of chats i had. but i tink its the first time we're having a proper conversation, not the usual half hearted ones. which is nice. for a change.

thankgod for yenn's video cos its the sort of cheer i need.

diet.

im getting fat and decided to have a healthy yong tau foo lunch, sans noodles, the fried stuff and wat have you.

just clear soup, veggies, tung hoon, and erm a slice of luncheon meat to satiate my erm sodium intake.

then. it happened.

there was this lil brown speck floating around, very buoyant i must say (net force = 0, no acceleration, no work done) and my sharp eyes *blink blink* detected no less than 6 segmented legs attached to a
body.

KAOZ.

talk abt increasing protein intake.

but wait! tats not the end!

to my amusement, another 2 were isolated.

if you thought tat was the end of it, u're wrong.

behold.

resigned. *sigh* 4 lives lost.

to commemorate/celebrate life, i had my dessert. this white rice kueh thingy, some childhood thing. see/eat before? its damn nice. super nostalgic.

damn nice la. me <3333

of cos, as with determinism, there's a purpose to this photo. this is not random.

to add insult to injury, guess wat confronted me after having one big chomp.

respects.

still cant believe my 78yr old grandma got chided by the loud annoying woman who runs the temple for not coming to pray and burn offerings during qing ming last wk or so.

'清明一定要在清明! 不可以说忙就不来! 知道吗?'

and went on and on and on, in her extremely reproachful, disapproving tone.

i dont like this temple for various reasons.

1) they are money sucking vampires. u know the paper bags u use to put the joss paper in? and the 'name tag' thing u write to whom from whom the offerings are for? they cost a hefty 2 dollars each. for that filmsy thing! and their reno, not cheap wor. still dont see why there shld be a carp pond.

2) the aforementioned woman. the chief administrator. extremely callous, tactless, and forever concerned with $.

3) vegetarian places are not for my uncle and granddad. they need their durians and meats! lucky my grandma's other vege dishes rock.

4) EXPENSIVE. repeat of pt 1, but bo bian. the 灵位 oso expensive, the rituals oso expensive. i suspect we're being ripped off but have no say cos its not our side of the family that chose this place.

5) and still say my grandma! wat the. angry leh! NO RESPECT. 清明 is the WHOLE MTH. not jus THAT wk ok. why shld we come and squeeze with everyone else? another thot: isnt the risk of the offerings getting lost on their way to receiver higher when there's a super big influx of offerings at the same time? unless of cos, delivery services are much much more efficient.

so pls, when i die, dont get ripped off. and somewhere non vegetarian pls, like the 'german monastery with pork knuckle and beer' quote unquote tl. dont scatter my ashes too cos i dun wanna contribute to pollution. and of cos, DONT offer me foie gras or sharksfin. i swear i'll give u more than just a nightmare. hiaks.

food.

the happiness has disappeared, and replaced by repulsion and disgust.
this joins sharksfin in my list of foods-i-will-never-eat.
wtf!

i dont see how ANYONE can bear to eat this. not even if you said something along the lines of 'if u dont eat it, then the bird died for nothing' or 'i'll only eat if its in front of me, i wont specially order it'.

once again, this brings to mind something i read.

'why is it that wild animals become tame after a few months of domestication; and yet, us humans despite having undergone centuries of refinement, are capable of such violence?'

happie-ness.

.is like this.

its like satisfaction, making the best time for the short weekend.
its like contentment, from meeting the ppl u like.
its like laughter, smiles and good cheer.
its like sunshine, bringing back the light in the eyes.
its like a brilliant sword, bravely brandishing away the wk's work toxins.
its like innocence, a new born's gaze that reminds you how precious life is.
its like a song, that makes u wanna sing and hum along to.
its like yogurt, the perfect balance of sweet and sour.
its like all other happie times, they just pass you by all too fast.

RESULTS....

TYPE A Shy, a bit of an introvert. You are more stubborn and like to stay alone quietly at home. To you, talking to strangers is a hard thing so you have not much friends. But you will still have some soulmates. You need to treasure people who care and love you. You are more interested in your own matters, you will try your very best to achieve your target. But you can't do everything alone, and just depend on yourself, learn to open up and accept other opinions. Try to get along with different people.

TYPE B You are a more active person, drawing a clear line between happiness and unhappiness. You are more quick-tempered. If you encounter things you like, you will do it without second thought. But once you encounter things that you hate, you will wish to get out of it as soon as possible. As you are a person of your own views, the friends you tend to have will be of the same pattern. But once good friends, you will understand them a lot and go all the way to help then. Friends are very dependent on you. As you are too emotional, you may make a storm out of a teacup with your friends. You must learn to do things in order and not give up easily. You can try making friends with those you don't think you can get along with, don't stick with the same category. This will make you more popular and charming.

TYPE C Gentle like a lamb. You have a high level of adaptance power, easy to get along with people. Very popular in social life but seems that no one will talk bad about you. You hate to have conflicts with people so you always try to adapt to everyone. You treat every person differently. To look at the bright side, you adapt easily. But to look at the dark side, you lack of character, although you are one big nice guy but you lack of charm. On the surface, you have a lot of friends but once you have troubles, you lack of soulmates to help you around. You must try to express yourself more and be more decisive. In this way, you can understand yourself more.

TYPE D You are stubborn, like to go in circles and don't get to the point. Once you decide on something, no one can change your mind. You are a good leader in a group so you win a lot of trust from your friends. But as you are too persistant on your own thinking, you neglect other people's suggestions therefore you can easily make enemies. Although it is good to maintain your own character but it doesn't mean you totally ignore other people's thoughts and feelings. You will let people think you are hard to handle and you will lose friends gradually and may end up alone. You need to learn to accept other people's opinion. This will make your social circle bigger and you will understand yourself better.

Just incase u wanted to know, i'm type b.

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hopes apart
As they turn your dreams to shame.

isnt everyone of us so guilty of this?

instead, we ought to be privileged to be amongst such talents.

never, never let anyone kill the dream you dream.

verbatim.

typed out as written in aur. in no particular order.

'she's so severe'
tink shane said this at least thrice. one of the instructors was kinda scary. she was quite stern, but towards the end of the trip we were chatting happily abt my fave hol destination - mabuhay philippines. it reminded me of how me and most of my close friends started off. i'd be rather intimidated by them, or think they were prob impossible to get close to or get along with but in the end, somehow became close and prob (hopefully) be friends for life.

one of the best bits of travel is really getting to meet new ppl, finding out more abt what made them who they were, the hows, whys, wheres. to think of it, apart from talking to my ownself, i hung out more with these no-longer-strangers alot more. i guess i was glad they'd wanted to talk to me too, and didnt mind me hanging ard and being part of their nonsense.

our dorm mates were really nice, i was totally surprised by their actions. keith offered me antiseptic wash and powder to wash my wound (i hadnt even realised he knew i was hurt), another of them actually turned back to switch off the lights and shut every door of our dorm cos i was still sleeping when everyone was headed off for their dive, someone else offered to snorkel with me cos i said i was scared to go myself.

small things like that, i thought it was very nice of them. but as nuf said, travelling is a time of discovery, sometimes u discover u can get along better with ppl, other times not. but tats wat makes it interesting i guess, cos most importantly you discover more abt urself and who u are, in other ppl's eyes.

'lets set our expectations right.'
larry's been saying this the entire trip; something i'm likely to remember for life esp when dealing with others. cos expectations run our lives, and we can never run from them. i guess i was wrong abt a couple of things, but perhaps the trick is in balancing things out, not expecting too little that u never move ahead, and yet not hoping for the world to fall onto your lap, such that when things fail, u can still pick urself up and move along.

'no la, cannot dive for work. its fun cos its a hobby.'
cant rem which instructor said it, but yeah how true huh. passion is one thing, but while its nice to depend on your passion to sustain your material needs, it starts becoming a chore. sucks i'm totally passion-less and very very dependent on this job for $. i cannot, cannot, for the life of me sustain this longer. fatigue is setting in, i'm growing weary, and just looking forward to the end of each month for the bank account to grow that bit more bigger. i think the right word shld be 'resentment'. i'm now at the stage where i dont really know wat to do next, even in my own work, cos everything seems so micro managed once again.

'i got injured cos of you leh'
jerich and larry both accused me of this during different situations, and to be fair to myself, i oso got injured ok! i was actually so happy reading on board i didnt have the urge to even go and snorkel. but i did dive in the end, and it was kinda cool going ard identifying the diff marine species i saw. tons of blue sea stars, angelfish, butterfly fish, file fish, sea cucumbers, the occasonal urchin, nemo hiding in its anemone, even the polka dotted nudibranch, totally fascinating.

'吵架很厉害的时候,男生应该怎么做?'
well according to dez, the most effective way would be for the guy to 紧紧抱着女方跟她说: '对不起, 是我不对。' obviously it doesnt work the other way round, but i guess most times our words dont really reflect what our heart wants to say. we had a proposal this trip, underwater one. quite cool, yenlis was totally in the dark. but wat impressed me more was the other couple, mr and mrs gan. they've reached wat they call their midlife crisis, and decided to do cool stuff instead. ferlin chose to climb mt kinabalu, gan chose to take up diving, and so they're both doing each others activities together. how sweet.

'hold my hand, take me home'
canuf's song is making me homesick (esp so the last day on enroute to singapore), i tink i'm being antisocial now but watever. this trip, i felt somewhat aimless. i didnt really know what to do each day, neither was i really included in the plans. i was sorta the odd one out, which was sometimes good i guess.

i loved the alone time onboard, with not a soul in sight, not even a bird. just endless stretches of sea, and me on a tiny boat. it jus felt abit awkward when everyone was on board cos i always felt like i was in the way, so i mostly stayed at my No 2 fave corner by the foot of the door. No 1 was the left side of the boat, with 2 mini steps to serve as my seat and table. beyond the ledges, was just pure sapphire blue - waves lazily licking the sides of the boat when it was calm. i din finish the 3books + 1 magazine i brought. instead, i started writing all that u're reading, and even a couple of short stories too, inspired by the things i saw around me.

'i'm scared.'
no prizes, tats my most commonly uttered phrase this trip cos i got asked once too often why i din wanna dive. towards the end, when gg for DSD, i was quite nervy. but when i was at the ladder abt to jump off, i surprisingly didnt feel a thing. just jumped right off. but it got scary after that going down, trying to equalise and then trying to keep afloat cos we were drifting while waiting for the speedboat after surfacing. bloody speedboat had no ladder. i had to take off the bcd and clamber off with ALOT of difficulty with fins and weight belt.

thank god for 3mm worth of neoprene to protect my body from more abrasions than the bruises and cuts sustained on the limbs. jerich nearly slipped and fell on me. 64kg might not be heavy, but still, its 64kg.

'la jiao chou jing'
several funny moments. one of cos was the la jiao chou jing, then there was the evening cat and jerich were trying to shower at the open air showers to no avail, then there was the last day on the speedboat where edward tried to squat but ended up facing his butt right in Saw's face. damn funny. and larry throwing jerich over, the 'happy hour' and 'ladies night', and how i was reminded not to bring my book down diving. funny moments, are funny things, really. no pun intended. laughter has this amazing ability to bring ppl closer together, close up distances, to the extent of forging a stronger team. laughter the best medicine? you bet.

1. heels, i swear, are a matter of getting used to. 5wks away from them, i'm stricken with a blister and knee pain. they were a mere 1 inch. useless!

2. the sgh a&e isnt like wat i imagined. there was no sense of urgency. nor hurry. it was just crowded, filled with busy ppl pointing directions and calling out instructions. kinda just like a typical day back in uro. i guess there is an underlying tension, cos anything and everyting can happen there and then, in an instant.

3. happy with my book purchases on fiction, non-fiction and philo. bag's filled, mainly cos of them books!

4. met abi at the henderson junction - her car was next to my cab. hiaks.

5. hsa is screwed. sent in the test results they requested way back in feb. today then come and call to ask if i even did the test. and then when she found the email, she said 'oh we may have overlooked it.' another champion thing? when i said we tested with psb, they said 'hmm errr.. ummm...psb limits for deg are abit high....shldnt have done there'. but then u accredit them for wat! not say the hsa lab itself any better, their lead time is 5 times longer, and still need to pay more!

6. i want to go to uniqlo and spend $.

7. everyone seems to be either getting robbed or perved at in msia. msia boleh.

8. the office is scary at night. and we're amused at the new facelift our lifts are undergoing. inside very grand! macham like shenton way/suites lidat! super tak match with the rest of our exterior.

9. thursday today means we are holidaying later! i shall attempt to read slooooooooowly. to maximise mileage outta the books. and compensate for the fact i've decided not to bring my laptop along tho i really really wanna watch the boy in the striped pyjamas!

throwing stars.

love this story, no matter how many times i read it. (and yes i'm also trying to chalk up posts to hit my 800th entry)

The Star Thrower, by Loren Eiseley

Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work. One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean. He came closer still and called out "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"

The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."

"I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"

At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, "It made a difference for that one."

the world today sounds scary.

what with gunmen shooting down police officers and immigrants, explosive chemicals found in milk powder, the italian quake, further drone attacks slated in pakistan, geylang rojak killing one person, piracy in somali, and miss universe declaring guantanamo 'soooo beautiful!'.

yeah it just gets scarier the more u read on, doesnt it?

had my last tuition session for the wk, headed off to a wake where i felt like i was some celebrity cos my gran was pulling us towards EVERYONE we didnt know and telling them we were her grandkids and EVERYONE was oohing and ahhing and it was quite funny actually cos i felt like some specimen being looked three times over. then when someone declared i was prettier than my mom, cos i tink tat wouldnt have been v nice if my mom were there.

so i paid my respects to a grreatgranduncle i barely knew, cept that i was observing his face and i wished the guy from departures could do his rites for him. i wonder why his face turned black. he stopped being able to eat a wk before he died (naturally fr old age) and i wonder wat was going thru his mind that wk, esp since he prob knew death was imminent?

on the way home, i turned my head to look for oncoming traffic and caught my breath cos the moon was perfectly framed in between a lampost and silhouette of a tree and it looked so perfect i was still for the moment.

today i feel abit aimless. i dont know what to start from.

but i know u'll say to do wat i can, and i guess i will.

oh and the rest is up to my 'external genius' =0)))
