a few topics to touch on.
shoes.
heh i love shoes. jus got a pair of burnt orange wedges. couldnt resist them!
amazing how good shoes make u feel. and its true, u can NEVER have enuff shoes. for every outfit, there can be at least 3 different shoes to match it with, depending on your look, style or mood. the only place i can think of where this isnt the case is during ur own funeral, where i think i'd prefer to go barefoot. cos i still like being barefooted.
of course, with the trend, my collection of strappyshoes has dwindled somewhat and been replaced with close toed, peep toed and pointy toed shoes of various heights. shoes, like bags and accessories are wonderful, cos of their ease of use. how often do u go 'oh my god my toes are so fat i think i need to wear my feel-fat shoes today!' imagine if u had jewellery which were cut to show off your finger or ear cleavage if u use a PUB (push up bra) for those areas.
point not well illustrated but u get the drift. its so much easier to buy shoes than clothes. and the gratification u feel when u wear heels! all outfits look better with heels. the higher the better. but unfortunately, i'm one of the sad ones who cant wear sky high heels. for one, the men in sg aren't tat tall. as social stigma demands, its still not right to meet clients looking taller than ur male boss. plus my condemmed knee. so GS will have to suffice for now. haah.
then again, there's the casual-ness and heck-care-ness of flats. weekends are brilliant cos i get to wear my flats and birks and slippers. i can hear my soles (soul too?) and toes thanking me. *beams*
wats up next? i wan a pair of boots. heheh to complete the look. i've already gotten the coat and gloves wat.. dark brown boots with good grip. shall go hk to search. woohoo! so exciting.
elitism.
been thinking about this for sometime. actually since the day -new fran- joined us. seriously, i dont think i'm a total bitch, nor an absolute snob. but i guess this word is most applicable for circumstances where u jus cannot believe tat such ppl can exist in the world. babe sorry for the joke abt the 'fail english must be a pre-req to (a certain uni in sg)' but i cannot believe tat simple grammatical mistakes can happen. factual mistakes u get wrong, fine (but shldn't she have clarified??) and grammtical ones are jus unforgiveable because they were littered all over the report. there's microsoft word right?? the spell check function?? isnt it the most basic thing to do? to jus RUN thru and spot the words UNDERLINED IN RED OR GREEN?
while elitism is sorta an ego thing (i guess it serves its purpose of making the person feel much better of him or herself in the process of belittling others), but i also do realise that there really IS a difference. i dont speak in perfect queen's english, and i'm also lazy to do so, but where a report is concerned, isnt this the most basic of things to get right? i mean, its for a 100k budget proposal??? dont get me wrong, my friends really are the best, no matter wat academic or family background they come from. and they haven't given me any cause to feel this way. but then again u cant really exhibit elitist behaviour towards frens (esp good close frens) cos u accept them for who they are. plus u probably love them to bits so u'd close 1.5eyes to wat they do haha!
which makes me wonder then: wat exactly is elitist behaviour?
well, to bring further this point, an excerpt seen this morning.
U teeth look hideous change ya pic for the sake of the
viewers. And by the way u need braces ur teeth is getting
out of hand
yours sincerely,
Stan
how wonderful. how sincere and constructive of this poor supposedly 40yr old male who cant even punctuate his sentences properly or get it grammatically correct. how sincere too, but to make his comments constructive, maybe he also could have offered me 3000bucks so i can actually get my braces done? am i being elitist then? cos i'm being a bitch and putting this poor chap down who never even met me or even had his picture online so tat i can offer him opinions in similar context? i promise to use proper english la can? its not jus about english really. its all about the way ppl act and behave. when u've reach a certain point in ur life when u can distinguish between better and worse, and have somewat identified urself with better, tats where all the problems start. (like how the states is prob the only country to go to war over erm pride or sth liddat?) in fact, mr stan is being elitist isnt it? cos he thinks tat only ppl with nice straight teeth shld be allowed in cyberspace?
to be in truly elitist-spirit, i guess i shld jus declare tt all stupid, fat, disgusting and smelly ppl shld just vanish from the face of this earth. now wont tat be nice? and before u get upset, think of all the times u've been irritated or annoyed by ppl who do things the WRONG way, jus cos they werent doing it the way YOU would have done (ie cut your queue, or lanes, kiasu-ism, or even impatience tat u showed when ppl ask silly questions which by right, shld come as common sense as it did to you, blah blah blah. i cant be bothered to type out the rest.) and tell me how un-elitist u were then. did i forget to mention abt ppl who act elitist (ala posers)? they do exist u noe. how abt the poor real estate lady who is a self made millionaire but cant find a single date cos she's in her 40s? its also elitism, cos the men were probably too insecure to go out with someone as confident, and insecurity is a manifestation of elite behaviour. cos only if u practice it, then will u shun other ppl who are really better than u.
but u noe, as long as the word 'I' or 'me' comes into play, its inevitable one shows signs of elitism. cos in everyone's opinion, things are only correct in the way they do it. and everybody else shld jus listen to you, cos, i mean, you are the only one who knows it best and therefore is right. but when things are done in a poorer way (and u know u have a better way), is tat also considered being elitist? have my rantings for the past 10mins been to no avail cos its totally irrelevant and out of pt? probably.
but, by the way, just in case:
