i always thought the key to our survival was a combination of us being social creatures as well as our ability to tink. you could say that they are totally different issues, but the more complex an animal's brain is, the more likely a social group is used to increase survival and the more complex their society will be. i mean its cos we can tink, so we form alliances/family etc to further enhance our chance in the universe. and because we have the luxury of a better survival rate in a social setting where everyone watches out for each other, ur cognitive ability sorta gets enhanced cos u sorta have more resources now to keep urself alive so u'll spend more time tinking how best to do it blahblahblah. so tats wat i tink.
i guess my perspective of things is abit too idealistic, and definitely not shared by some people.
'The military regime has moved to curb the Buddhist clerics' efforts, even as it fails to deliver adequate aid itself. Authorities have given some monasteries deadlines to clear out refugees, many of whom have no homes to return to, monks and survivors say.' 'Larger monasteries were being closely watched by troops and plainclothes security men — "invisible spies" as one monk called them.'
'CHILD traffickers are targeting the youngest and most vulnerable survivors of Myanmar's catastrophic cyclone and two suspects have already been arrested, the UN said on Tuesday.... 'A broker came to a shelter and tried to recruit children,' said Unicef's chief child protection officer in Myanmar, Anne-Claire Dufay.'
Read it here and here.
what happened to 'humanity'? have we forgotten that we are all human? in times of crisis, why should differences make such a big difference anymore?
i suppose it does. it seems we've truly become the most complex of all social groups, one that not only extends survival and self preservation beyond our own physical survival, but one that is bent on ensuring the destruction of others, human or animal alike.
congrats. i guess i shld be thankful my major gripe these days is merely lousy service & bad luck on the roads. and that some animals of relatively high order (natural enemies no less) actually exhibit mutualistic behaviour of sorts.
