anyway, time to blog about food. havent done so in a bit, mainly cos i havent really been eating much. but the mom wanted to try brazil churrasco at gilman, so off we went. nice place, having taken over kar soh (which was also good). and despite all warnings, i chose to have the FULL meal. who will be siao and reject meat?? well i didnt, and didnt really regret it. the topside was marvelous, cripsy outside, rare and extremely flavourful inside. the rump was quite good too, no beef taste at all for non-beef lovers, but equally as tender. another one i liked was the chicken fillet, soooo tender and very well marinated with cajun and spices. they served some really good fish too, tasted like really well done otak, creamy yet not too overpowering. judging by the flakiness and colour of the fish, well lets jus say it departed from this earth not too long ago. wat i really appreciated was the grilled pineapple, de-skinned and grilled til its warm and
crisply done, bursting with tart sweetness in every bite.
of cos they had a really extensive salad bar. i dont remember the one at sixth ave having such a wide variety but this one was yummy too. beetroot, mushrooms, celery, polenta, potatoes sauteed and in a salad, banana, 2 types of rice, broccoli, all my fave vege (yeah they had tao geh too and it was a dish i obviously avoided) and more.
one more thing i really liked was this bread they served for starters. thin crisp coat outside, chewy slightly cheesy centre. bon appetit!
but you know what, what really really really fascinated me about that place?
nope, its not the passador who'd grin when he purposely approached me more than once with freshly grilled chicken heart determined to make me try one despite my disgusted grimace, nor the one who'd spontaneously belt out brazilian tunes in rich baritone, nor the fact that they played the same gypsy flamenco music i have in my playlist.
nope. none of that.
i was just simply taken, enraptured, by the knives they used. the huge solid elegantly gleaming blades so sharpened. how deftly, effortlessly it sliced through meat, leaving it to hopelessly fall onto your plate.
and now you shld thank me for forgetting my camera and not posting photos. u wont like me very much if i did, cos u'd be feeling mighty hungry.
