verbatim.

typed out as written in aur. in no particular order.

'she's so severe'
tink shane said this at least thrice. one of the instructors was kinda scary. she was quite stern, but towards the end of the trip we were chatting happily abt my fave hol destination - mabuhay philippines. it reminded me of how me and most of my close friends started off. i'd be rather intimidated by them, or think they were prob impossible to get close to or get along with but in the end, somehow became close and prob (hopefully) be friends for life.

one of the best bits of travel is really getting to meet new ppl, finding out more abt what made them who they were, the hows, whys, wheres. to think of it, apart from talking to my ownself, i hung out more with these no-longer-strangers alot more. i guess i was glad they'd wanted to talk to me too, and didnt mind me hanging ard and being part of their nonsense.

our dorm mates were really nice, i was totally surprised by their actions. keith offered me antiseptic wash and powder to wash my wound (i hadnt even realised he knew i was hurt), another of them actually turned back to switch off the lights and shut every door of our dorm cos i was still sleeping when everyone was headed off for their dive, someone else offered to snorkel with me cos i said i was scared to go myself.

small things like that, i thought it was very nice of them. but as nuf said, travelling is a time of discovery, sometimes u discover u can get along better with ppl, other times not. but tats wat makes it interesting i guess, cos most importantly you discover more abt urself and who u are, in other ppl's eyes.

'lets set our expectations right.'
larry's been saying this the entire trip; something i'm likely to remember for life esp when dealing with others. cos expectations run our lives, and we can never run from them. i guess i was wrong abt a couple of things, but perhaps the trick is in balancing things out, not expecting too little that u never move ahead, and yet not hoping for the world to fall onto your lap, such that when things fail, u can still pick urself up and move along.

'no la, cannot dive for work. its fun cos its a hobby.'
cant rem which instructor said it, but yeah how true huh. passion is one thing, but while its nice to depend on your passion to sustain your material needs, it starts becoming a chore. sucks i'm totally passion-less and very very dependent on this job for $. i cannot, cannot, for the life of me sustain this longer. fatigue is setting in, i'm growing weary, and just looking forward to the end of each month for the bank account to grow that bit more bigger. i think the right word shld be 'resentment'. i'm now at the stage where i dont really know wat to do next, even in my own work, cos everything seems so micro managed once again.

'i got injured cos of you leh'
jerich and larry both accused me of this during different situations, and to be fair to myself, i oso got injured ok! i was actually so happy reading on board i didnt have the urge to even go and snorkel. but i did dive in the end, and it was kinda cool going ard identifying the diff marine species i saw. tons of blue sea stars, angelfish, butterfly fish, file fish, sea cucumbers, the occasonal urchin, nemo hiding in its anemone, even the polka dotted nudibranch, totally fascinating.

'吵架很厉害的时候,男生应该怎么做?'
well according to dez, the most effective way would be for the guy to 紧紧抱着女方跟她说: '对不起, 是我不对。' obviously it doesnt work the other way round, but i guess most times our words dont really reflect what our heart wants to say. we had a proposal this trip, underwater one. quite cool, yenlis was totally in the dark. but wat impressed me more was the other couple, mr and mrs gan. they've reached wat they call their midlife crisis, and decided to do cool stuff instead. ferlin chose to climb mt kinabalu, gan chose to take up diving, and so they're both doing each others activities together. how sweet.

'hold my hand, take me home'
canuf's song is making me homesick (esp so the last day on enroute to singapore), i tink i'm being antisocial now but watever. this trip, i felt somewhat aimless. i didnt really know what to do each day, neither was i really included in the plans. i was sorta the odd one out, which was sometimes good i guess.

i loved the alone time onboard, with not a soul in sight, not even a bird. just endless stretches of sea, and me on a tiny boat. it jus felt abit awkward when everyone was on board cos i always felt like i was in the way, so i mostly stayed at my No 2 fave corner by the foot of the door. No 1 was the left side of the boat, with 2 mini steps to serve as my seat and table. beyond the ledges, was just pure sapphire blue - waves lazily licking the sides of the boat when it was calm. i din finish the 3books + 1 magazine i brought. instead, i started writing all that u're reading, and even a couple of short stories too, inspired by the things i saw around me.

'i'm scared.'
no prizes, tats my most commonly uttered phrase this trip cos i got asked once too often why i din wanna dive. towards the end, when gg for DSD, i was quite nervy. but when i was at the ladder abt to jump off, i surprisingly didnt feel a thing. just jumped right off. but it got scary after that going down, trying to equalise and then trying to keep afloat cos we were drifting while waiting for the speedboat after surfacing. bloody speedboat had no ladder. i had to take off the bcd and clamber off with ALOT of difficulty with fins and weight belt.

thank god for 3mm worth of neoprene to protect my body from more abrasions than the bruises and cuts sustained on the limbs. jerich nearly slipped and fell on me. 64kg might not be heavy, but still, its 64kg.

'la jiao chou jing'
several funny moments. one of cos was the la jiao chou jing, then there was the evening cat and jerich were trying to shower at the open air showers to no avail, then there was the last day on the speedboat where edward tried to squat but ended up facing his butt right in Saw's face. damn funny. and larry throwing jerich over, the 'happy hour' and 'ladies night', and how i was reminded not to bring my book down diving. funny moments, are funny things, really. no pun intended. laughter has this amazing ability to bring ppl closer together, close up distances, to the extent of forging a stronger team. laughter the best medicine? you bet.
